The Saint Lucia Citizenship by Investment Program (CIP) offers investors the opportunity to acquire citizenship through one of the approved investment options. The process begins with selecting an investment route, such as making a non-refundable contribution to the National Economic Fund, investing in government-approved real estate, or purchasing government bonds.
Once the investment option is chosen, applicants submit the necessary documents, including personal identification, financial details, and proof of the source of funds, through an authorised agent. After submission, Saint Lucia’s Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) conducts thorough due diligence, including background checks and international screenings, to ensure compliance with legal and financial standards.
This process typically takes between 2 to 3 months. Once the due diligence is completed, the application is reviewed, and upon approval, the applicant is required to make the investment directly into the relevant government-approved channels.
Following the confirmation of the investment, applicants receive a Certificate of Registration, officially granting them Saint Lucia citizenship. The Saint Lucia passport is then issued shortly thereafter.
The entire process from initial consultation to receiving the passport generally takes around 3 to 4 months, with 1 to 2 weeks for document submission, 2 to 3 months for due diligence and review, 1 month for final approval and investment, and 2 weeks for passport issuance.
Yes, you can obtain a St. Lucia passport while retaining your current citizenship, as St Lucia legally recognizes dual citizenship.
However, keep in mind that not all countries permit dual citizenship, and your country of current citizenship may not allow you to acquire citizenship elsewhere. If your country does not allow it, the only way to hold multiple passports would be to renounce your existing citizenship.
The legal foundation for the Saint Lucia Citizenship by Investment (CBI) Program is established under the Citizenship by Investment Act, 2015. This Act provides the legal framework for the implementation, regulation, and operation of the CBI program, enabling qualified investors and their families to obtain Saint Lucia citizenship through a range of investment options.
The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), created under the Act, is responsible for processing applications, conducting due diligence, and ensuring that all investments align with the legal and financial standards set by the government. The CIU also ensures compliance with international anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-financing of terrorism (CFT) regulations.
